This doesn't mean there's nothing that can kill the apex predator, only that there's nothing that seeks it out as a food source. For example, bears and wolfs will fight, kill, and (naturally) eat each other; but they are both apex predators as such fights only happen as parts of a territory dispute. Neither creature "hunts" the other.
