Made the question more specific, with the advice of Miniman.

I am starting a campaign and I need some advice, I have yet to find any 5e advice on building a party onlinehelp.

I have three players who will make the party and I will DM. My issue is that since I am new to 5e (but have played one campaign of 3.5) and none of my players have ever played d&d before I am not completely sure on how to buildWill a party.

Please give party composition recommendations for d&d 5e? I am looking for specific recommendations for my group, and general advice for future campaigns is an added bonus. Is of a paladinPaladin and two rangers a bad party? Should I encourage my players to consider other classes?

My players have voiced interest in playing a paladin, a rangerArcher/archerRangers work well, and an arcane archer. I am not sure whether or not that sort of party will be fine or not. The latter twothey have mentioned a willingness to change if the party needs something.trouble with encounters of appropriate challenge rating?

Additional informationMajor Concerns:

  • Warlocks are banned, Sorcerers and Wizards are allowed, but fluff forThough the campaign setting might imposeparty has some limitations.magic I allowing all races including the Eladrin elf subrace DMG 260, and the races in the Elemental Evil Players Companiondon't know if they have enough to contend with magic users of appropriate levels.

  • Player 1: Dragonborn Paladin (HasI am not yet chosen an oath. P1 wants tosure if they will be a utility tank and thought that paladin was the obvious choice without knowing much about any class whatsoever.)

  • Player 2: Ranger/Archer (Probably a Hunter. Has a willingness to change to a spell casterable to fill out the party if that is necessarydeal enough damage in close quarters.)

  • Player 3: Arcane Archer (Described his ideal character as an archer with magic sounds like a ranger to me, but I could also see a rogue w/ arcane trickster. P3 is willing to do something else to fill outThere isn't much in the party if necessary.)

  • All players have a desire for good team synergy.

  • A same page tool will be used, and all players will build characters togetherway of stealth.

Edits: I'm trying to workshop this into a better question, so as this campaign picks up I'll be able to ask better questions in the future please let me know how I can do better.
