Having played a mystic theurge starting at level 1 until about level 18, I can say from experience the class needs all the help it can get. (But my experience is informed by having a single-classed cleric in the group and the game being core rules only. Your mileage etc.) | |

| Jul 10, 2015 at 15:19 | comment | added | Hey I Can Chan | For what it's worth (which, honestly, may not be much), in the Ask Wizards column from 5/28/08, the Sage weighed in on the feat Precocious Apprentice being used to qualify for 2nd-level spell casting, saying, "In the Sage’s opinion, the Precocious Apprentice feat would not help you qualify for a prestige class or feat because it gives you a chance at casting a 2nd level spell, not the inherent ability to cast 2nd level spells."
