Is it possible to get Can an NPC healer be part of a party of PCs, and if so, how does that work?

I want to beplay a rogue but I'm afraid our party won't have any healers. There would only be 3-53–5 of us and though I know someone who might beplay a healer but, I don't know if they'll actually join the group.
